Long Time
Erik: The main riff for Long Time came about in Burlington, Vermont, USA, as I was coming off a plane to drive back home. On the road, the riff gave way to the rest and, by the time I got home, the whole structure was done to the general feel of the piece. When came the idea of redoing the songs from In The Forest, it was self evident that we would add new songs and this one was made to open the show.
Pat: Every time Erik composes a song, it usually comes with a theme and a well-thought concept, to which he sends me reading material. And since this was not a previous Crystal Faith song, we went at it from scratch, as we'd done countless times before. In his original document, he already mentions the time he stopped creating since he had nothing left to bring to an audience, the doubt that came about his creativity, the fact that music had change during this time and he felt nothing interesting from it, that he was a dinosaur, etc. And those were strong images that resonated with me and made it easy to transform into lyrics, to the point of having to do only one rewrite.

Long Time Lyrics
Snow everywhere but temperatures climbing
Vegetation sprouted and bloomed
Wildlife from slumber awakening
Trees dressing to colors from nude
It’s been a while since you had last seen us
We thought that time had literally stopped
We thought then that we became irrelevant
We thought then “no place for us”
The last time we were just scrawny kids
Making noise, trying our best
We have grown in more ways than one, we did
Wait 'til you hear what's coming up next
(Light the fire!) Composing riffs, writing out words, making the melody
(Feed the fire!) Striking the drums, grooving the bass, getting the rhythm
(Reaching higher!) Cranking the guitars, leveling the mikes, getting to the core of it
(Feel the power!) We have been away for a long time
After a while, we had nothing to add
We thought we'd done all that we could do
Time for the dinosaur to be petroleum
As it cannot bring anything new
Seems we were wrong: much more to be said
We have grown to be better than then
We have evolved true and responsible
We want to share what we have learned
(Light the fire!) Composing riffs, writing out words, making the melody
(Feed the fire!) Striking the drums, grooving the bass, getting the rhythm
(Reaching higher!) Cranking the guitars, leveling the mikes, getting to the core of it
(Feel the power!) We have been away for a long time
We are real. We are worth it.
(Light the fire!) Composing riffs, writing out words, making the melody
(Feed the fire!) Striking the drums, grooving the bass, getting the rhythm
(Reaching higher!) Cranking the guitars, leveling the mikes, getting to the core of it
(Feel the power!) We have been away for a long time
(Light the fire!) We are real. We are worth it.
(Light the fire!) We are real. We are worth it.
We are real. We are worth it. We are real. We are worth it.
